Founded in 2001, Provoke have come a long way since then

Wind the clock back to when the dot com bubble had just burst and sprayed worthless venture capital over every major market in the world. That's when the five founders of Provoke decided to start a company.  There couldn't have been a better time to start something new. With no money, a few short years of experience and a customer base comprising only one logo, times would be tough, character-building so to speak...


What on earth were we thinking?

In the summer of 2000, five of us got together over brunch at Felix Cafe on Cuba Street in Wellington. "Okay, who’s keen to start a web design company? We can do it better, we can have more fun and we make money while doing it. How hard could that be?"

The premise was simple. We wanted to create a business that would place as much emphasis on good design as it would technical brilliance. From day one, we wanted to build a culture that would attract and retain the brightest the software and design communities had to offer.

Our next challenge was to come up with a name that was different, memorable, ideally a little provocative. One of the Directors [Dave] was up late one night, watching TechTV when a bunch of words were thrown up on screen. One of them stood out. Provoke.

A business plan was written and a small-business loan was secured via The National Bank. This provided enough start-up capital to register our new company, rent a small office in Manners Street and buy one PC. On the 1st of April 2001, Provoke was officially trading…

Cloud Solutions for Small Business

The Full Suite, launched in 2012, provides a cloud-based document management system for small-to-medium businesses wanting to transform how they run their companies. 
Having recently been recognized as Microsoft New Zealand's Start-Up Partner of the Year, Suite is leading the charge for any business in the world wanting to harness the immense power of Microsoft Office 365.
Suite comprises a collection of tools that make the cloud transition simple, but what really sets them apart is their document management platform - SuiteFiles.



The R&D Department

​SpiderLabs, setup in 2010, was established to provide a Research & Development vehicle for innovations not strictly suited to Provoke's core business. 
Operating in a 'virtual' capacity, SpiderLabs enables the Provoke Group to build-out prototypes, test new concepts and develop non-Microsoft software for platforms such as Apple iOS and Android. 
SpiderLabs provided incubation services to a concept called 'PracticePoint' which has since been successfully launched to world under The Full Suite brand.
